Artist's Comments

Well, this is my first submission to DeviantArt. This is a character of mine and I decided to attempt to draw him.

I know I'll probably need a lot of work on it, but that's fine. I want to work on getting better at my art skills. So any criticism that helps me draw him better I'll happily accept.

Technically, this is the second facial drawing I've done. While it's more along the lines of my sixth or seventh drawing total. I don't expect it to be perfect, but yeah...here ya go o.o.

Congrats, love. It's your first deviation! Considering it's only your sixth or seventh drawing overall, it still looks good. :glomp:

I already gave you my commentary on how to improve from here, but I think it looks great so far. :poke: I don't know what it is, but I love the hair. It's full of life, not flat and boring like a lot of new artists tend to do.

You seem to have the proportions down very well (like where the ear lines up, the spacing of the eyes, location of the mouth, etc.), which to most artists, is always the hardest thing to perfect. You're well on your way there. :3

My biggest qualm with this is the face shape - one cheekbone is higher than the other, and his face shape isn't very symmetrical. The other thing is the neck - maybe it could be a bit thicker? I dunno. It looks like it's on a bit of a funny angle, too, but maybe that's jsut me. ^^

One of the best tricks someone ever taught me was something very simple, but very helpful. After you have the rough outlining done, hold your drawing up to a mirror and look at its reflection. You notice practically everything that seems off, even if it seems just a little off. It's a very useful trick and I apply it whenever possible.

Also, and this is just a minor thing, lined paper is fine but don't be afraid to go out and buy yourself a sketchbook of sorts (paper that's about 100lbs to 110lbs is ideal, but not neccesary), and just go and have fun filling it up. :3

Hope I helped some, and I look forward to seeing what else your talented self has got comin'! ^^
